Six months and 200 thousand euros later, the famous and emblematic pipe organ of Igreja da Lapa will be heard again this Wednesday, January 11th, in a concert by Olivier Latry, head organist of Notre-Dame Cathedral Paris, advances the website porto.pt. The repertoire will include works by Richard Wagner, Edwin Lemare and Charles-Marie Widor.

“The Sound of Porto Sagrado is back”, inaugural concert for the rehabilitation of the pipe organ, “celebrates the completion of the general overhaul of this true monument to music, a half-year job that involved the complete disassembly and reassembly of the most notable (words by the author himself) a masterpiece by the great German organ builder Georg Jann”, announces the organization in a statement.

The repair and conservation of this musical instrument, “internationally recognized as one of the best Iberian pipe organs and even in all of Europe”, according to the Irmandade da Lapa, was supported by the Porto City Council, among other patrons, such as the “la Caixa” Foundation. Admission is free and subject to the capacity of the church.
