Metro do Porto

Porto's new MetroBus began service on 28 February, running along a dedicated corridor on Avenida da Boavista between Casa da Música and Praça do Império. The route covers four kilometres across seven stations – Casa da Música, Guerra Junqueiro, Bessa, Pinheiro Manso, Serralves, João de Barros and Império – and takes around 12 minutes, a significant improvement over the same journey by conventional bus during rush hour.

The vehicles run on hydrogen produced from solar energy, making the service emissions-free in operation. The total project investment stands at 76 million euros, funded primarily through Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), with additional support from the State Budget and the Environmental Fund.

March serves as an experimental phase to adjust timetables and procedures before paid service launches on 1 April under the standard Andante fare system. A second phase, extending the line westward to Anémona near the Atlantic coast, is scheduled to open by August 2026.
