Private airlines are betting heavily on Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport

The private airlines Ryanair, easyJet and Sun d'Or have announced new routes to and from Porto, increasing the offer, next summer, at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport.

The first released 11 new routes, increasing to a total of 164 in Portugal. easyJet had already communicated two new routes, for the same period, totaling 89 to be operated in our country. The Israeli airline Sun d'Or also launched a seasonal summer operation between Porto and Tel Aviv.

In summer, Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport will be connected by Ryanair to Bristol and Leeds (England), Castellon (Spain), Maastricht (Netherlands), Nimes and Strasbourg (France), Shannon (Ireland), Stockholm ( Sweden), Trapani and Turin (Italy), Warsaw (Poland), which is now joined by Copenhagen (Denmark). “We are launching our biggest ever schedule for the summer in Portugal, which includes four new planes, two of which in Porto”, announced the executive president of the Irish airline, Michael O’Leary.

In an investment of 400 million euros, the executive chairman of Ryanair made it clear that the company “continues to invest heavily in Portugal”, with a 13% growth in the summer, compared to the same period of 2022, with the aim of reach 13 million passengers transported in fiscal year 2024.

Easyjet connects Naples and Palermo to Porto

EasyJet had already announced, however, at the end of last year, the new routes that will connect, during the summer, Porto to Naples (two flights a week, from April 1st) and Palermo (a weekly flight, from July 1). The number of routes operated by the airline will reach a total of 89, with Invicta having 26 destinations. At Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, six A320 neo aircraft are now available.

At the time, the director general of easyJet Portugal, José Lopes, highlighted "the company's strong investment in the country", foreseeing "the busiest summer ever".

Tel Aviv closer

Sun d'Or, a subsidiary airline of the Israeli El Al and represented in Portugal by ATR, will launch a seasonal operation between Porto and Tel Aviv, which is scheduled to start on March 15, with two direct flights per week (at Mondays and Wednesdays), until October 27th.

The flights will depart from Porto at 9:30 pm, with an expected arrival in Tel Aviv at 4:50 am, while in the opposite direction, departures from Tel Aviv will take place at 4:15 pm, arriving in Invicta at 8:15 pm, always at local times.

In a statement, Sun d’Or explains that “Portugal appears, once again, as a key destination for its 2023 programming”.
