Porto has been named Europe’s friendliest city in Condé Nast Traveller’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, securing second place in the worldwide ranking. Published on 6 October 2026, the results place the Portuguese city just behind Melbourne, Australia, which took the top spot.
Porto received a score of 98.33 out of 100, narrowly behind Melbourne’s 98.52. The annual awards are based on votes from the magazine’s readers, who share their experiences of destinations around the world.
The recognition puts the emphasis on hospitality as an important part of the visitor experience. Porto’s neighbourhoods, traditional restaurants and historic streets offer opportunities for travellers to discover the city through its local culture and everyday interactions with residents.
The result adds to Porto’s international profile as a destination for city breaks, combining architectural heritage, gastronomy and cultural attractions with the welcoming atmosphere highlighted by the magazine’s readers.
