MALHA: Porto Looks Back at Its Cultural Future With New Porto 2001 Exhibition

The Museu do Porto is marking the 25th anniversary of Porto 2001 with Porto Regresso ao Futuro, an exhibition that looks back at a defining moment in the city’s recent cultural history. Open from August 15 to October 31, 2026, the exhibition is installed at the Antiga Casa da Câmara, in the historic centre of Porto.

Rather than simply presenting a historical record, the exhibition uses the idea of time travel to connect Porto’s past, present and future. It brings together objects, photographs, films, documents and publications from the Porto 2001 archive, preserved at Casa da Música, offering visitors a new perspective on the ambitions and cultural projects that shaped the city a quarter of a century ago.

Among the highlights are the documentary Porto: Regresso ao Futuro, by Teresa Pacheco Miranda, which features testimonies from Porto 2001 commissioners, and Próxima Paragem, by Catarina Mourão, which captures a city undergoing transformation at the time. The exhibition also includes a new installation by Pedra no Rim, a model of Casa da Música, an unpublished drawing by Madelon Vriesendorp, as well as programme notebooks, books, catalogues and communication materials. Admission is free, subject to the venue’s capacity.
