The World Press Photo is at the Maia Forum for the 65th edition of the event. It is now the 23rd consecutive time that the photographs resulting from the competition are on display in Maia.

This year, the exhibition brings news. The World Press Photo Foundation launched a new strategy and changed the configuration of the competition, as well as the awarding of prizes. Thus, you can count on photographs and stories organized in six regions of the world (Africa, Asia, Europe, North and Central America, South America and Southeast Asia and Oceania) and in four different categories (Photo of the Year by World Press Photo , Open Format, Background Project and Individual Photography award).

From this exhibition, it is possible to recall the most remarkable events of 2021, “promoting a reflection on current times and raising awareness of the existence of global challenges to which we can and must all make our contribution”, explains the municipality. Thus, you can count on photographs such as “Saving forests with fire”, by Matthew Abbott (Australia), for National Geographic/Panos Pictures, which was awarded the report of the year; or “Amazon dystopia” by Lalo de Almeida (Brazil), for Folha de São Paulo/Panos Pictures, recognized with the Fundo Projeto award, among many other images.
