Christmas lighting in Porto will be active for about five hours on most days, revealed this Wednesday the Porto Merchants Association, which aims to reduce energy consumption by 30% this year.

The Porto Merchants Association said that, despite being aware of the importance that the Christmas season tradition represents in commercial activity in the city, it will adopt preventive measures to face the current situation of energy crisis.

"We realize that a collective commitment is necessary so that it is possible to achieve a reduction in energy consumption of about 30%, compared to previous years"

The measures were articulated with the Porto City Council. The Christmas lighting will be active from the eve of December 1st to January 7th.

During this period, the lighting will operate from Sunday to Thursday between 18:00 and 23:00. On Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays, the opening hours will last until midnight.

This year, Christmas lighting will also be made using low-consumption LED technology.
